Remote Ultrasonic Pulser Preamplifiers
Driving ultrasonic signals through long cables can seriously degrade the signals: transmit pulses become flattened and wide; received signals can become corrupted by external noise and distorted by impedance mismatches. Remote ultrasonic pulser preamplifiers can be custom designed to correct these types of problems. Good quality preamplifiers and pulser/preamps improve signal quality in underwater UT and auto UT applications involving long cable runs. Our ultrasonic pulser/preamps work with standard ultrasonic flaw detectors as well as with our our ultrasonic pulser/receivers.
Preamplifiers with logarithmic compression can be used to compress the dynamic range of the RF signal, allowing the full dynamic range of the signal to be utilized.
Depending on ultrasonic frequency, coaxial cables can be "long" at 30 metres. Twisted pair cables are less ideal and can be "long" at 10 metres. In electrically noisy environments even shorter cables can benefit from the use of remote preamplifiers to boost the signal from the transducer. We have provided circuits that drive ultrasonic signals through coaxial cables in excess of 500 metres long, maintaining the quality of the signal.
NTS Ultrasonics Pty Ltd does not sell off the shelf preamplifiers. We prefer to learn from the client what the ultrasonic systems needs to achieve and to custom design a solution that optimized the whole signal chain from the transducer to the flaw detector.
